Oregon customers of Pacific Power will see their electricity rates drop with the new year.

The utility serves more than 600,000 customers in the state, including the cities of Albany, Corvallis and Roseburg.

Pacific Power spokesman Spencer Hall said average customer rates should decrease by 5.2 percent.

“We know it’s been a hard year for everyone," said Hall. "We’re excited to have customers get a little bit of relief during a difficult time.”

Hall said the lower rates are partly a result of the increased use of renewable energy, such as wind and solar power.

The rate decrease was approved by the Oregon Public Utility Commission.
