Ecological Burn Planned at Buford Park

Mt Pisgah Arboretum

Prescribed ecological burns are planned at Mt. Pisgah near Eugene-Springfield over the next month, starting as early as Thursday.

Lane County Parks manager Mike Russell says controlled fires help manage vegetation. He says they also help reduce fuel for wild fires.
Russell: “Waiting to do prescribed burns when conditions are perfect allow us to control the fire and then burn up that buildup of duff and organic material that just builds up on the ground over time.”
Affected areas include the northwest corner of Buford Park and the land south of the Arboretum. Some trails will be closed on burn days, but the Arboretum parking lot and main summit trail will remain open. Burns will take place dependent upon weather.
