Eugene's Moratorium On Glyphosate

In June, the City of Eugene put a moratorium on glyphosate a common ingredient found in herbicides such as Roundup.

Recent studies have shown this ingredient is correlated to a number of health problems such as cancer, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s.

Lisa Arkin, executive director of Beyond Toxics, says people around the United States are restricting its use.

“I think that the city of Eugene is excited to move in that direction and is following the lead of 94 other cities and counties, not to mention a number of countries, that have restricted or fully banned the use of glyphosate,” says Arkin.

The indefinite ban only affects Eugene’s city properties, particularly high-use areas, and not private residencies.
