Artists to Paint Murals for City of Eugene's UpStream Art Project

City of Eugene

Four artists will paint murals in and around downtown Eugene to send a message to the community about river pollution starting Saturday. This is the second year in a row that the city of Eugene has chosen artists for its UpStream Art project.

Eugene’s Stormwater Specialist Kathy Eva says this year’s project theme is “Clean Rivers Start Here,” and it’s designed to help people understand the impact of untreated storm water flowing from the streets to local waterways.

“Quite a few cities around the U.S. have done projects like this before,” says Eva. “We just like the idea of having imagery to remind people that anything that goes down the storm drain ends up in the river. Sometimes visual communication is a good way to portray information.”

The murals, which will be created around city storm drains, will begin to be painted on Saturday and finished by Wednesday afternoon.
