A collection of rare presidential coins have been returned to the Benton County Historical Society. They were recovered following narcotics raid in Multnomah County in May.

In 2005, the Benton County Historical Society acquired the Horner Collection from Oregon State University when the campus branch museum closed. The collection was missing some rare presidential coins, which were stolen sometime during the late 1960’s or early 70’s. Irene Zenev is the Executive Director for the Benton County Historical Society. She’s happy to have the coins back.

Zenev : “The reason they were able to identify them as part of the Horner Museum Collection was because there was an actual museum label on the back of the cardboard.”

Zenev says the donor’s name was also on the back of the mounting, which helped identify the collection. The coins don’t have a high monetary value, but are historically significant. The coins are on display at the Benton County Museum in Philomath.
