Recent events have brought racism against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the US into the spotlight. Eugene-based DisOrient film festival is working to build understanding and connection through film.
For the last 16 years the festival has been striving to amplify Asian American and Pacific Islander voices. Both in front and behind the camera.
Executive Director Pamela Quan said it can be hard to counter the limited coverage the AAPI community receives.
“You know, to just give a platform to share the struggles, the successes and the broad range that we want to include of our stories,” said Quan. “So we just want to present the rich variety that there is.”
Quan emphasized the films are relatable no matter a person's background.
The festival runs through Sunday and is being held online this year so films and Q and As can still be streamed from home. More information about the festival can be found here.
