A Eugene non-profit’s multicultural program coordinator won an international award for her work supporting refugee youth.

Salsi Alzubaidi joined Ophelia’s Place in April this year, and is helping equip the organization for diversity and inclusion as it serves the community.

Alzubaidi received the “Top 100 Leaders in Education” award in June at the Global Forum for Education & Learning, recognizing her work in Jordan creating an alternative education system for refugee youth.

Alzubaidi said at Ophelia’s Place she wants to connect with diverse communities in a way that respects them.

“I put them in a position of power; you empower me as a community to know about you, you’re the expert, not me,” Alzubaidi said.

Ophelia’s Place is a non-profit with the mission to  help girls ages 10-18 get the education, resources and support they need to make healthy life choices.
