Several events are planned this weekend to raise funds for people affected by the shootings at Umpqua Community College. Some students organizing a benefit concert would like to see Snyder hall torn down.
The shootings took place in Snyder Hall on October 1st. Nursing Student Mechelle Walters says she would like the hall razed or renovated.
Walter: "For students like myself who were right there when all of the events took place on October 1st on our campus it's really uncomfortable to be on that side of the school period. My personal opinion is I would like to see it gone but I just want to see something that expresses love and not such a sad reminder of that awful day."
UCC Administration has not yet made a decision on the future of Snyder Hall. No classes are currently being held there.
Walters is helping organize a benefit concert Saturday at the Umpqua Valley Arts Center in Roseburg. Funds will go to UCC students and the community and toward some project to transform Snyder. The event is from 3 to 11, with a candlelight vigil at 8 o'clock.
