Confusion and frustration surrounds an alleged hazing incident at Cottage Grove High School.
Outside the school, Renee Anderson holds a sign that asks, “WHAT’S GOING ON?” Like many parents, she’s concerned over reports that a student athlete was assaulted with a broomstick. Anderson says she really craves one thing from the CGHS administration.
“Freedom of information into knowing what is going on at my child’s school in a timely manner, especially when a potential crime has gone down," she says. "I don’t know where I’m at! I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone, what’s happening to our town?”
In a letter to families, the South Lane School District has apologized for its handling of information on the situation. But it says accounts of rape and sexual crimes are not consistent with its investigation. Two 15-year-old boys have been cited for physical harassment, and a representative with Lane County Health and Human Services tells KLCC thy've been assigned a juvenile counselor.
