There have been several recent fires on agricultural and grassland in and around the city of Corvallis. These tend to be human-caused.
With triple digit temperatures and tinder dry forests, officials have raised the fire danger level to extreme in parts of southwest Oregon.
Kyle Reed is with the Douglas Forest Protection Association. He says when heading out to the woods, it’s important to observe restrictions in place to prevent wildfire.
Reed: “One of the biggest things we’ve seen locally here is campfire issues. We’ve had several fires in recent weeks where people have gone out to the forest and had campfires in places where they’re not allowed right now-- which have actually spread and become fires. So, just a lot of the simple stuff right now can make a big difference between preventing fires or having a large fire.”
An illegal campfire caused the more than 76,000 acre wildfire that continues to rage in California’s Big Sur area.
