Cooler weather and rainfall are helping out crews battling the region’s wildfires.
Sonny Saghera is handling communications for the Umpqua North Complex. It’s burned more than 40,000 acres since it started last month. He says currently there are almost 900 personnel tackling the fire, 50 miles east of Roseburg.
“That also includes about 240 U.S. Army soldiers which are here, helping us fight the fire as well. And those are from Taskforce Spearhead," Saghera tells KLCC.
"We had a little bit of rain Tuesday morning, but not really to affect any of the fire, for the most part the fire stayed within its own footprint, meaning it didn’t cross any of the containment lines that we had established.”
Right now the Umpqua North Complex fire is 37 percent contained. Saghera says he expects conditions to remain favorable for fire crews throughout the week.
