Former Condomium Site On Newport Beachside Cliff Collapses

City of Newport

Officials urge the public to stay away from a coastal outcropping in Newport known as Jump-off Joe, after a landslide.

The outcropping at the north end of Nye Beach where it meets Agate Beach is home to the ruins of a failed condominium project and belongs to Lincoln County. It has a history of slide activity and has finally collapsed.

Officials with the county, City of Newport and Oregon State Parks Tuesday agreed to install fencing and signage upland of the area and more signage on the beach side of the slide. The public is prohibited access due to safety concerns.

Officials have prohibited public access to the outcropping because of safety concerns.
