Lane County Could Be in Good Standing for Phase 2 of Reopening

Although it’s too soon to tell, Lane County could be on track for phase two of reopening. The second phase could mean increased office work, larger public gatherings, and limited visitation to nursing homes.

Jason Davis, Public Information Officer for Lane County Health, said there is a solid amount of personal protective equipment, and believes the low number of COVID-19 hospitalizations is a good sign for the next reopening phase.

“While it’s too soon to tell about all the different marks, we do know that the cases that we’re seeing are the kind of cases that we want to be seeing,” said Davis. “They are relegated to those sort of clusters and they’re predominantly related.  And then we’re also picking people up on asymptomatic testing which is also good news, because that means that we’re preventing them from spreading throughout the rest of the community.”

Lane County is in its second week of the first reopening phase. Approved counties may be able to start the second reopening phase after three weeks in the first phase.
