In the days following the coronavirus outbreak in Oregon, United Way of Lane County mobilized. The agency created a COVID-19 Response Fund to help scores of local nonprofits working on the frontlines of the pandemic.
Over the last two months, United Way has distributed nearly $310,000 countywide. Marketing Director Christie Costello says small grants were awarded every two weeks.
“This was providing funds to non-profits who were offering food boxes, rental assistance, family supports and so many other things to those who were most impacted.”
Costello says local donors and foundations responded swiftly to help United Way build the fund. Most of the Lane County community grant awards were $2,500. (See a list of recipients below.)
In mid-June, the agency will kick off the Recovery Reimagine Fund. These grants will be larger in scope and invested in local efforts to address health, education and economic inequities.
