Eugene 4J Schools

School starts this week and 4J students might notice a few changes from last year.

Students at Howard Elementary and Roosevelt Middle School will begin this year in new buildings. And that's not the only thing different in 4J.

Kerry Delf is with the district.

Delf: "This is the first full school year we've had in Eugene school district 4J since 2008-09. Our students who are starting middle school this year will have a first full school year in their entire history as a student."

Delf says they will also hire more teachers and a counselor for each elementary school. And for the first time in nearly 20 years, elementary and middle school students will have fresh science material.

A lot of these changes are possible because of voter approved bond measures. Taxpayer money is also funding new buildings at The Arts and Technology Academy and River Road Elementary. They will open in 2017.

School starts Wednesday in Eugene and Springfield.
