Oregon State University President Ed Ray today called for closing the education achievement gap between low-income and wealthy families. KLCC’s Deonna Anderson has more.
In his state of the university address, Ray said the gap has doubled in the last 48 years.
He says OSU will address the issue by doing more for its students. For example, it plans to provide online and in-person programs to meet students’ needs. It’s asking the state legislature to support a bond to add a second building to its Bend campus. It’s planning to offer more programs through OSU extension and in the Portland region. OSU wants to expand its Portland presence by centralizing some existing regional programs and offices in downtown’s historic Meier and Frank building.
