Since getting the green light from the state in January, Eugene area school districts have worked to bring their youngest students back into classrooms. Eugene 4J and Bethel Schools aim to start hybrid learning March 15th.

For Bethel kindergartners, it’ll be the first day they’ll enter a school building. “It’s going to look like the tables or desks for students are spread out and there are very few of them," said Bethel spokesperson Pat McGillivray. "There will be anywhere from 10 to probably 13 students in a classroom.”

McGillivray said class sizes will depend on the size of the room and the cohort. Like Eugene 4J, students will either go in Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday, with Wednesday as a cleaning day. They’ll have online class when they’re not in school.

McGillivray said parents who choose full-time distance learning may be assigned a new teacher. Bethel hopes to return first grade, or first and second grade, right after spring break, and add older students each week after that.
