Last (Wednesday) night the Eugene 4J School Board selected a superintendent search firm with a fresh perspective over an established company.

Board members agreed both firms were good choices, McPherson & Jacobson with broad experience and pricier, female-led Alma Advisory Group able to act on local needs. Board member Martina Shabram said both have risks, “But I’m willing to risk for the possibility of hoping towards something new, and hoping that part of what we will be getting is a new approach and a new way to do things that may inform other processes within our district.”

The vote for Alma passed with Alicia Hayes and Mary Walston opposed.

The meeting started an hour late and online after some community members opposed to vaccines made their way inside and refused to wear masks. The board decided not to declare November 24th a no-school day, and asked Superintendent Vandercar to propose two or more future days off to best give teachers relief, while minimally impacting parents.
