With the exception of the coast, temperatures in the KLCC listening area are expected to approach 100 degrees this weekend.
Matthew Cullen is a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Portland. He says it's unusual to have temperatures this high this early.
CULLEN: "What's really driving the warm temperatures is really strong high pressure that will be developing over the region. So, the western U.S. is definitely going to be warm all the way from here in the Pacific Northwest down south as well. So, very strong high pressure will be driving the temperatures."
Cullen says not to draw any long term conclusions about the summer from a single weekend. But, he adds the seasonal outlook from the Climate Prediction Center forecasts above average temperatures for June and possibly, the rest of the summer.
Relief is expected early next week, when the thermostat should dip back down towards into the 70s and 80s.
