Behind the glitz and glitter, high fashion is a dirty business. According to Ecowatch, the clothing industry is the second largest polluter in the world—the first is oil. As KLCC’s Tiffany Eckert reports, a few designers in Eugene are promoting “conscious consumerism” this Saturday with a different kind of fashion show.
The 2ND Annual Eco-Couture “Trashion Show” is designed to shed light on just how much waste we make and toss away. Farale Nelson is with Of the Earth apparel and The Eco Boutique.
Nelson: “We have recruited some local designers to make wearable art, fashion designs, out of trash. Bottle caps, six pack rings, plastic bags, scrap fabric. Pretty much anything that is gonna otherwise end up in a landfill, they can use to make these amazing pieces.”
Following the trash turned art portion, models will hit the runway for an Eco-Fashion Show in designs ranging from tribal festival to business casual--with Organic and Fair Trade fabrics and low impact dyes.
The event is free but tickets are required and available at The Eco Boutique in the Whiteaker district, 782 Blair Blvd., Eugene.
