Whiteaker Community Dinners plans to serve more than 2,000 people for their 26th annual free Thanksgiving Day meal.
Over 600 people volunteer to make the Whiteaker Thanksgiving Dinner possible. All the food is donated. Organizer Beverly Farfan says that doesn’t include additional community volunteers who collect supplies for people in need.
Farfan: “We can feed over 2200 people and supply needed sleeping bags, and blankets and clothing and a lot of good will toward each other of visiting. There’s kids activities and music going on, so it’s a good day for so many, and it just warms my heart.”
The dinner has made a big effort to go green. All products used are compostable and Farfan says all the food scraps go to a local pig farmer. Volunteer drivers are available.
