Eugene's Popular Amazon Running Trail Gets Improvements

City of Eugene

The City of Eugene Parks and Open Space has completed renovation of the Amazon running trail.
The project was funded with $1-million from the parks bond passed two years ago by voters. Kelly Shadwick with Eugene Parks and Open Space said the improvements to the 5.5 mile trail were based on community feedback.
“As part of the renovation, we created a thicker rock base for long term stability. We also added new surfacing and drainage and just created a more durable running surface.” Said Shadwick. “In addition, we added habitat-sensitive lighting throughout the trail, between the forest and the creek.”

The improvements include lighting along the 5.5 mile trail in south Eugene.

Shadwick said, with the pandemic, more people are out using Eugene’s park system. Masks are required on trails, she said, especially where it’s difficult to maintain a six foot distance.
