DeFazio Says Widespread Rapid Testing Key To Fully Re-opening Economy

Oregon Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Springfield, thinks the key to re-opening the economy as soon as possible will be widespread, rapid testing.

The Springfield Democrat said during a telephone town hall Monday that the tests could benefit everything from airline passengers to school students. “There are tests that are out there, that can tell you results in ten minutes, but they aren’t widely available," he said. "We need hundreds of millions of those tests and then we could get back more quickly to regular society.”

DeFazio said he returned to his Oregon district Sunday but is in ongoing talks with Congressional leaders about a possible stimulus package to help the nation deal with the pandemic. He said he'll return to Washington in order to take the vote, if one is scheduled.
