Emergency operations at Lane County Public Health have been focusing on the Labor Day holiday with warnings of transmission risks and requests to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
From Memorial Day to the 4th of July—holidays have tended to result in upticks of new coronavirus cases. As the Labor Day weekend approaches, Public Information Officer Jason Davis urged residents to really consider what they are doing.
“We’re expecting some hot weather. It’s going to be very tempting to go about life as usual, but we encourage people- actually- not to do that,” said Davis. “To take a different lens and look at your plans and really evaluate whether your plans are necessary.”
If you do deem your Labor Day plans crucial—Davis warned against dropping safety protocols when with close friends or family members who live outside your household. He urged keeping gatherings small and outside, wear masks when not eating and maintain social distancing standards.
Public Health reported an 82 year old man died Wednesday from COVID-19, the 7th death from the virus in Lane County. There were 13 new cases announced Thursday, putting the overall total at 750 cases since the start of the pandemic.
