Oregon State University has scheduled another round of COVID-19 prevalence testing this weekend, June 5 and 6, in Corvallis.
In the TRACE project, researchers go door-to-door across several neighborhoods and offer free coronavirus tests. The idea is to gauge how widespread the virus is in a community. This is the seventh round of prevalence testing in Corvallis since the project started more than a year ago.
This round will be a bit different. OSU says in addition to the nasal swab sampling method, participants will also be asked to provide a saliva sample. TRACE project organizers say the saliva samples will show whether any virus antibodies present in the individual come from having received the vaccine or from actually having had COVID-19.
The last round of prevalence testing in Corvallis, in mid-March, showed an estimated rate of 13 cases per 1,000 people.
