The Roseburg Veterans Administration Medical Center has hired a new permanent director.

Keith Allen will take over for interim director David Whitmer, who assumed leadership in Roseburg after Doug Paxton was reassigned. That change came after a federal investigation into staff and veteran complaints about poor treatment and working conditions at the medical center.

Allen served in the U.S. Army. He holds a master’s degree in national security and resource strategy from the National Defense University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts.

Allen has been with the VA for 13 years and is currently interim director at the Walla Walla VA. He’ll start at the Roseburg VA in March.

The Roseburg VA Medical Center serves 155,000 veterans with a budget of $227 million.
