Two University of Oregon students in Belgium the day of the Brussels attacks are safe. Jennifer Eyler is enrolled in a study abroad program in the capital city. KLCC’s Kyra Buckley reports on the U of O junior’s reaction to Tuesday’s events.

Jennifer Eyler says she has never felt scared or unsafe in Brussels until Tuesday.

Eyler was out at the time of the attacks. She says she did not know the severity until she returned to her West Brussels home. That’s when messages from friends, family, and social media rolled in.

In a message Eyler says Tuesday’s events “have brought the people of this diverse city together.” She says people want to return to a sense of normalcy and don’t want to live in fear.

Eyler calls the bombings devastating and heartbreaking, but says there is an outpour of love and support for Brussels, as well as other cities with recent terrorist attacks.

Eyler says despite Tuesday’s attacks, she has had a great experience in Brussels studying international studies.
