A Eugene neighborhood is takingthe threat of a natural disaster seriously.
Southeast Neighbors president, Heather Sielicki, says they wanted to take typical standard disaster training further. They also wanted to offer training at a local level.
Sielicki says after a major earthquake, the neighborhood could be cut off.
“It may be a while before first responders can get to south Eugene,” said Sielicki. “We want to have a network of people who are trained to respond to their neighbors and communicate through a walkie-talkie network.”
Sielicki says the training’s focus is on how the community responds to disasters.
