City of Eugene voters will be deciding on parks and recreation funding measures this May. City councilors moved the levy and bond proposals to the ballot Monday night. KLCC’s Deonna Anderson reports.
The five-year $3.1 million levy will fund day-to-day operating costs.
Carolyn Burke is the parks and open space planning manager for the City Of Eugene. She says passing the measures would mean making a reinvestment in the system.
“From an operations and maintenance perspective, we would be able to get to every park more frequently keeping them cleaner,” Burke says. “We would also have an increased security presence in our parks through both a park ambassador program, which we have, as well as increased police department presence.”
The $39.3 million bond would pay for bigger ticket items like renovating Sheldon Pool and Campbell Community Center.
If both measures pass, homeowners will be paying about $98 annually.
