4J Levy To Be On May Ballot

Eugene 4J

In May, Eugene voters will consider renewing a five-year levy to help fund 4J schools.

According to 4J Board Vice Chair, Anne Marie Levis, this levy helps school operations, such as putting teachers in classrooms and maintaining a full school year.

If renewed, the property tax rate would stay at the current levels.

If it does not pass, the school district would lose $17 million of its budget when the current levy expires in 2020.

Levis isn’t quite sure what would happen if this occurs, but says…

“When you look at a budget that’s had $76 million dollars cut out of it, there’s not a lot of money left. We’ve closed schools, sold buildings and so I don’t know at this point what would happen. I guess we’ll have to see.”

Levis says she wants to explain to voters why this levy is crucial to local schools. The district also hopes to get input from the public.

Community members can attend a forum on March 6th at 5:30pm at the 4J Education Center in Eugene.
