The City of Newport has lifted all restrictions on water use by residents and businesses.
Wednesday's announcement comes nearly two weeks after the city limited outdoor water use and temporarily closed down commercial seafood processors. Those restrictions are no longer in effect, and the city has allows major commercial water users to resume operation.
Newport’s water treatment plant has struggled to keep up with demand because the filtration system was failing.
The city is still trying to get the filters repaired, but it’s now using two mobile water production units to bridge the gap until the main filters can be repaired.
According to a city press release, one of the filters was sent to the manufacturer for a "forensic analysis," which could take up to two weeks to complete.
