Thursday, the Oregon Supreme Court ruled that an initiative requiring labeling of foods containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) will move forward. Oregon Right to Know is a coalition working to give Oregonians more information about the food they’re purchasing. Before the initiative makes it to the ballot, supporters have to collect more than 87 thousand signatures. Spokesman Sandeep Kaushik says they plan to hit the streets next week.

Kawshik: “We’ve got some work to do, but we’ve got until the beginning of July and we’re confident that’s plenty of time for us to make it onto the ballot.”

Oregon Right to Know expects to face strong financial opposition from large chemical companies including Monsanto as the fall election draws closer. But they say they will keep campaigning until Oregonians know what’s on their plate.
