Coos Bay City Council Clarifies Ordinance Banning Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

The city of Coos Bay voted 6 to 1 last week to enforce an existing ordinance prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits.

The Council met to clarify language in the city's business license ordinance laws. Its agenda said amending the existing policy would be sufficient to "deny licenses to any business not in compliance with both state and federal laws." One word was changed at last week's meeting, but it basically means the same thing. Coos Bay Mayor Crystal Shoji told The World Newspaper the action was more about compliance than a stance on medical marijuana. The single "No" vote came from Councilor Mike Vaughan. He was hoping to obtain more research on how Ashland dealt with changing their code to allow dispensaries in certain locations.
