Governor Brown Confirms Candidacy

Governor Kate Brown has confirmed she'll stand for election.

The Democratic governor confirmed her plans on Friday while attending the Pendleton Round-Up.

Brown's announcement was not a surprise. She's been raising money for months and hired a campaign consultant. But when asked about her plans, she's always demurred.

Her consultant, Carol Butler, says Brown will make a formal announcement in the future.

Brown was secretary of state before becoming governor when John Kitzhaber resigned in February. The winner of next year's election will finish the last two years of Kitzhaber's term.

Republican physician Bud Pierce has also announced plans to run for governor.
