Lane County residents in unincorporated areas will vote on a measure to levy a local three percent tax on recreational pot in November.

The Board of Commissioners made the decision unanimously Tuesday.

Eugene and Springfield are among several Lane County *cities that are also voting on marijuana tax measures.

But unincorporated areas function differently.

"In this instance, the state has granted the ability to ask voters to consider a tax, but it has to be done at the city or county level," County spokeswoman Devon Ashbridge says. "The proposal would only apply to those recreational businesses located in unincorporated Lane County."

She says the money collected from the tax will be distributed in the annual budget process.

This measure would not tax the sale of medical marijuana.
