Lane County

The Lane County Equity and Access advisory board hosted an online public forum for community members to talk about mental health on Tuesday.

The virtual listening session was the first of eight scheduled in the next two months. The advisory board’s goal is to bring underrepresented voices to the forefront of Lane’s communities in an effort to achieve racial equity.

Advisory board coordinator Mo Young said the information gathered about community experiences with inequity will be brought to the Board of County Commissioners to change policy.

“This isn’t the ideal way to have a listening session or a town hall meeting,” said Young. “If we weren’t in the middle of a global pandemic, this isn’t how we would do it. So I’m grateful that folks have signed up and have participated, and I hope that people do continue to do that.”

Young said that anyone can register on Lane County’s website to listen or participate in the upcoming equity sessions.
