Oregon U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio could be facing a familiar challenger in next year’s election.

Alek Skarlatos gained worldwide fame for his role in stopping a terrorist attack on a French train in 2015. He won the Republican nomination for Oregon’s Fourth Congressional District last year and faced long-time incumbent Democrat Peter DeFazio in the general election.

The race drew national attention, and Skarlatos got 46 percent of the vote, making it the closest congressional race in Oregon. Skarlatos announced on Fox News over the weekend that he’s running again.

In a Facebook post, DeFazio called Skarlatos a union buster who doesn’t take COVID-19 seriously. But it’s not clear whether the two candidates would even face off next year, as Oregon lawmakers will be re-drawing district lines this fall.
