UO Alum Brianne Theisen-Eaton Wins Bronze Medal In Rio

University of Oregon alum Brianne Theisen-Eaton won a bronze medal in the heptathlon this weekend at the Olympic Games.

Theisen-Eaton, who runs for team Canada, came into day two of the heptathlon Saturday in 6th place. She made up ground throughout the day, capping it off with a third-place finish in the 800 meter race. She earned a total of 6 thousand 653 points and the bronze medal. Fellow Duck Phyllis Francis is heading to the finals in the 400 meter race today.  And Devon Allen makes his Olympic debut in the men’s 110 meter hurdle prelims. According to the University of Oregon, Theisen-Eaton’s bronze makes her the first Duck Olympic women’s medalist in an individual event since 1988. Her husband fellow U of O alum Ashton Eaton begins decathlon competition Wednesday. Eaton won the decathlon gold medal in 2012.
