Two former Duck athletes qualified for this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo amid triple-digit temperatures at the U.S. Track and Field Trials in Eugene Saturday.
Oregon alum Jenna Prandini set a personal best of 21.89 seconds in the women’s 200-meter. She came in second to Gabby Thomas who set a Trials record and equaled the third-fastest time in history to win in 21.61, taking over the No. 2 spot on the all-time world performer list behind only Florence Griffith-Joyner.
In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, former Oregon star Devon Allen, who was fifth at Rio, finished second Saturday. His time of 13.10 equaled his season best.
Also on Saturday, a new American record was set for the women’s hammer throw. DeAnna Price broke her own Trials record four times, topping out at 263 feet 6 inches. This makes her the No. 2 all-time performer for the event, and marked the longest throw in the world since 2017.
Sunday is the final day of competition at the Trials. The Tokyo Olympics begin on July 23.
