Lane County’s independent redistricting committee last week decided on three possible new maps for the five county commissioner districts.
The 15-member committee drew up the maps with a goal of balancing each district based on 2020 census numbers. After seeking public comment, it narrowed 19 options down to three.
Judy Williams, strategy and integration manager at Lane County, said they waited to draw maps until the state legislature had completed its redistricting process.
“The goal is really having a transparent and inclusive process so that we get feedback,” Williams said. “We get engagement. And we have a committee that’s really looking at what are the best impacts for the entire county.”
The committee will present the three proposed maps to the County Commissioners at their November 9th meeting.
