Sheldon High School Detached Classroom Severely Damaged

Eugene fire and police departments are investigating after a mysterious fire started at Sheldon High School last night.

Lance Lighty with the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department said the fire caused severe damage to one modular classroom.

“There's two modular buildings connected by a wood deck, about 20 feet apart from each other," said Lighty. "Then they sat behind the gym, about 10 feet off the gym. And again there was no damage to the other modular or the main part of the school.”

Eugene School District Spokeswoman Kerry Delf said the damage is estimated to be at least $110,000. However, replacing the modular would actually cost more than that.

A statement from Eugene-Springfield fire marshals said there has recently been an increase of fire activity in the area.

Investigators are working to determine if past and last night’s events are related. Eugene-Springfield fire did not comment on previous incidents.
