A single-engine plane crash outside Harrisburg this morning killed four people.
The Piper PA-46 aircraft hit about 10 miles north of the Eugene Airport before 11 am. Emergency crews and law enforcement were sent to a field off Peoria Road. A photo from the Eugene Register-Guard's coverage of the incident shows Linn County deputies surveying the wreckage in a field.
Speaking near the crash site, Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley told reporters what they know so far.
“At this point we don’t know what the cause of the crash is," says Riley. "Whether it’s weather related or mechanical difficulties, it’s too early to tell that. But we are conducting an investigation.
"We’re going to try and determine of course what happened, who’s inside, where they left, where they were headed, that sort of thing. We need to make notification of next of kin.”
Sheriff Riley says both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are en route to conduct their own investigations.
