Updated, Tuesday 6:30 A.M.: the Milepost 97 Fire near Canyonville is 65 percent contained as of Monday evening. It's burned more than 13,000 acres.

The Douglas County Sheriff has lifted all the remaining evacuation notices for the area. Southern Oregon residents are still advised to “be ready” throughout summer because of the risk of more fires. The Milepost 97 fire was sparked by an illegal campfire. Officials say they’ve been finding other abandoned campfires, illegal debris burn piles and the use of power equipment in places where it’s restricted or prohibited due to fire danger. They urge people to do their part to prevent wildfires.

Smokey the Bear’s 75th Birthday is this Friday, August 9th.
