UPDATED 8/5/19, 6:30am: Fire officials report 55% containment.
Original story: The Milepost 97 Fire is now 50% contained. Crews continue to make progress along the fire’s edge, using both air and ground resources.
New maps show dozer lines and hand dug lines are keeping the fire contained, while the uncontrolled edge on the west side of the fire continues to shrink. Firefighters are using handheld infrared cameras to detect hot spots within the containment lines as they work on mopping up those areas.
Nearly 1,400 fire personnel are on the blaze which started July 24th and has burned 13,117 acres near Canyonville.
Fire officials say smoke from the interior of the fire may be visible for the next several days. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has extended the air pollution advisory for Southern Oregon, including Douglas County, through Monday.
