Lane County Sees June Boost In Unemployment

Unemployment went up last month in Lane County. The rate rose from 4.8% in May to 5.5% in June.

Regional Economist Brian Rooney says this isn’t surprising, given that school got out and graduates and students sought work. He says the uptick in Lane County’s unemployment rate isn’t cause for alarm.
Rooney:“We normally see this increase in the number of unemployed in June. In addition, there are some layoffs at the schools, at university and at the local school districts.”
Rooney says we’re close to full employment at the national level. He says, all in all, this is the best time for job-seekers since before the recession.
