Springfield School Bond Fails

Springfield School District leaders are disappointed a $62.5 million measure failed to pass Tuesday.

The money was sought to upgrade technology, replace Hamlin Middle School and upgrade other school buildings. Devon Ashbridge is Springfield Schools Communications Specialist:

Ashbridge: "The need to replace Hamlin hasn't diminished at all and we still have aging facilities and technologies. So I think the next steps are to work with our community to find out why the bond measure didn't pass, look at how we can create a solution that benefits everyone and everyone can support and then look to come back to our voters in a future election."

The vote was close with 51 percent against the bond and 48 in favor.

Junction City voters defeated a similar measure by a larger margin. Their School District's $ 32.4 million bond to replace aging facilities was rejected by 64 percent of voters.
