Bend Teacher Wins National Educator Award

Milken Educator Awards

A Bend High School teacher was given the Milken Educator Award for excellence in education this week. Andria Lindsey is the only Oregon teacher among 44 across the country to receive the national prize.

Lindsey has taught math at Bend Senior High School since 2005. She also coordinates the school’s international baccalaureate diploma program and she organized Bend High’s math lab. Lindsey says she was surprised with the award at an assembly this week.
“Being a teacher, your rewards are your students.” Lindsey says, “Coming back and telling you about their successes. We never expect to get any recognition.”
Lindsey says she feels the award is a win for the entire teaching profession.
The Milken Award includes a check for $25,000. Lindsey says she’s not sure what she’ll do with the money—likely it will go in some way toward education.
