Lane County Public Health announced Thursday they have identified two new viral outbreaks. They both resulted from social gatherings.
One outbreak was in a multi-family get together at the Oregon coast. This resulted in 12 new cases of COVID-19. The second case cluster was in a gathering of six. Officials said one person infected the other five.
Just this week, the county was moved to the Lower risk category for coronavirus transmission. New case counts have been steadily dropping. Spokesperson Jason Davis said people could be lulled into a false sense of security but, “now really is not the time to let your guard down.”
Davis said with variants circulating and some residents returning from Spring Break travel--masking, distancing and prioritization of social gatherings are as important as ever.
