State leaders hope cash prizes will spur more Oregonians to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Friday, Governor Kate Brown announced a $1-million lottery drawing, called the Take Your Shot Oregon campaign.

“Getting vaccinated not only protects you from COVID-19, it helps protect your loved ones” Brown said. “It takes us one step closer to unlocking the restrictions we have endured during the pandemic. And in Oregon, it now gives you a chance to win a million dollars.”

Oregonians 18 and over who have received at least one shot of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or the one-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine are eligible to win the grand prize. There are also $10-thousand prizes for residents of each of Oregon’s 36 counties. And Oregonians aged 12-18 can win one of five Oregon College Savings Plan scholarships. The lottery runs through June 27.

Other states are trying similar incentive programs including New York, Maryland, and Ohio.
