On Wednesday, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) signed off on approval of COVID-19 booster doses for everyone 65 and older-- and for people at high risk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is next to weigh in on who should get a third shot, and when. Lane County Public Health stands ready to provide boosters to all who are eligible.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is meeting to determine the most effective use of boosters. Lane County Public Health Officer Dr. Patrick Luedtke said there are still plenty of questions that need answers.
“For example, what do you do with booster doses in some sub-populations like pregnant patients?” he asked. “What do you do for a booster in someone who received Moderna, because this is just a Pfizer vaccine? Can we use the Pfizer to boost someone who had two doses of Moderna?”
Meanwhile, the county is gearing up for an influx of eligible booster seekers next week. In addition to the Lane Events Center, officials said they have three other mass vax sites which can be mobilized within 24 hours.
